Suit and Tie Combinations for All Seasons
What will Spring weather bring? Will it be warm? Will it be cold? Is it going to rain? Who’s to say? One day it’s 30° out and snowing, the next day it’s sunny and 73°. WTF Spring? So many unanswered questions, we know.
One thing that is certain: men of style are ready to drop the outerwear and set their spring style free. What does this mean for the everyday suit and tie wearer? (Finally a question we can answer): Go bright and go light. Brighter tie colors and lighter suit fabrics, that is.
It’s time to shed the dark days of winter style for more vibrant colors, from the watercolor pastel ties to bolder, more saturated suits. As for patterns, florals are always indicators of spring. (Is there a statute of limitations on calling floral patterns a trend? Stylish men have gone floral every spring for years now. We’re officially declaring it a thing.) Your tie choice is the perfect chance to incorporate these hints. When it comes to fabrics, everything old is new again too. The OG of spring suiting, fresco, which allows for more breathability without sacrificing durability, is coming on strong again.
We’ve prepped five suit and tie combinations (with these things considered) to get you through a spring week in style. These looks feature suits from Black Lapel’s Spring/Summer ‘16 Collection and our pick of spring-appropriate ties from our friends at Freshneck.

With temperatures at their lowest and your extra layers rate at its highest, you might be forgiven for prioritizing warmth over style in your winter office outfits. But we’re back with another installment of our seasonal suit and tie combinations because you work inside and you’ve got to take that coat off sometime. Now is the time when you see men clad in suits, dress shoes, topcoats and thick, skullcaps in NFL team colors with logos on them. These “one of these things is not like the other” outfits are a fashion transgression that we find acceptable because it’s cold out there.
Of course, not everything that keeps you warm needs to be purely functional. Take the tie. It not only gives you a unified look, but it can act as a scarf. If you remember our story on the Evolution of the Knit Tie you’ll remember that the whole idea of the necktie came from how men wore scarves.
So with some help from our friends at Freshneck, we’ve put together a week’s worth of winter suit and tie combinations that’ll keep you warm outside and stylish inside.

You’ll be wooly warm in this suit and tie combination. The gray base color of this tie, set against a deep blue suit, shows why light gray wool is a winter classic.

In the early fall we suggest suit and tie combinations that combine wool and silk. As the weather cools and fall makes the transition towards winter, you can start to wear suit and tie combinations made of 100% wool, as in wool ties. While the feel and thickness of wool ties may seem more appropriate for winter than fall, color plays a role too. A wool tie that incorporates fall colors plays better in October than in February.
Below we’ve provided a week’s worth of inspirational suit and tie combinations that are perfect for fall featuring the fall 2015 collection of Black Lapel suits and some of our favorite fall-appropriate ties available from our friends at Freshneck.

Suit and tie combinations are the most public displays of style a man can put on. A tie can make all the difference, turning an outfit from ho hum to “holla!” To pull it off, you need a great suit (we’ve got you covered when it comes to that). And a great tie is worth more than its weight in silk (or wool or cotton or linen). Which brings us to our next point: choosing seasonally appropriate materials…
Somewhere along the way, the tie got paired up with silk, and only silk, in the minds of the average guy. Most men don’t ever venture past the woven silk ties they first encountered when they learned to tie a four-in-hand knot under the caring, but often ill-informed, tutelage of their fathers. A collection of ties made entirely of silk may have been all dad wanted in his closet, but today’s stylish gentleman knows that his ties, like everything else in your wardrobe (and life), should be in tune with the seasons.
Case in point: summer, with its relaxed dress codes and lightened up color palette, is the perfect time to mix some cool cotton ties and rugged linen ties into your tie rotation. With the help of our friends at FreshNeck (the accessories rental service that we’ve partnered with in the past) we’ve put together a week’s worth of great looking cotton ties and linen ties that’ll get you through a summer work week in style. We started with a simple white shirt and paired them with some of our favorite summer suits to show you how easily you can mix these seasonal ties into your rotation. The result? Some killer looks that we’re sure will knock ‘em dead this summer at your office, but you be the judge of that.
