2016 Look of The Year
An obvious yet worthy choice, the Deep Burgundy Custom Suit gets our coveted ‘Look of the Year’ title this year. (Editor’s Note: The Deep Burgundy fabric featured here back in 2016 is out of stock.
However, the Deep Burgundy Saxony fabric has replaced it.)
We say obvious because we polled our entire New York office and everyone guessed correctly on the first try (Disclaimer: half the office owns this very burgundy suit). Burgundy also made its way into every non-suit item of clothing this year, so it looks like we were fools to think that any other suit would top this one. Hey, at least we’re stylish fools.
The Look Of The Year
Deep Burgundy Custom Suit by Black Lapel.
We had Black Lapel model, Lewis, put the Deep Burgundy through its paces. So, in a way, Lewis is our Model of the Year (claps for Lewis). He wore it in a few different looks in the studio and then we had him hit the streets in even more outfits. Watch him and learn.
Ways To Wear It
With A Crewneck Sweater
Deep Burgundy Custom Suit by Black Lapel.
When the temperatures start to drop, follow Lewis’s lead on sweater weather. The Burgundy Suit is the right tone to wear with your sweaters all Fall and Winter (and Spring?) long.
With A Sleek Dress Shirt

Here, Lewis follows our rules on how to wear a black shirt to a tee. The Burgundy Suit paired with a well-fitting black dress shirt is the look for standing out on a night out.
With A Classic Shirt & Tie

Lewis is smart to pair the Burgundy Suit with a classic white dress shirt and tie for an office-ready look. With a bolder suit, you don’t want your shirt and tie combination to overpower it.

The suits are looking great
Yup, these are our heavy hitters from last year. More greatness to come this year 😉
Hey Black Lapel, I love your articles and try to put them to use. I have a black suit, and I am going to a party where the dress code is going to be semi formal. With this in mind I would like to pair my suit up with a vest. Which color and pattern would be fitting to a black suit?
In our guide to the modern way to do a three-piece suit we highlighted how a patterned vest can liven up a solid black suit using the Cobble Hill Vest. We love this because it not only adds pattern, but brings some unexpected elements of color to a black suit.
