The Self-Measure Guide
Your Fit Survey gives us a strong starting point for building your best fit. But every body is unique — and adding a few simple measurements you take at home helps us refine your results with even greater accuracy.
How to Measure
Chest
Measure straight around the back, under the armpit, and over the widest part of your chest. Make sure to check that the measuring tape is level all around.
Measure snuggly, but with enough room to fit 2 fingers inbetween the tape and your chest.
To check, take a deep breath, and allow the tape to expand slightly.
Stomach
Measure straight around the back, over the widest part of your stomach while standing naturally, without sucking in or puffing out your stomach.
Leave room to fit 2 fingers between the tape and your stomach.
Waist
Measure around the point on your waist where you would wear your dress pants.
Measure as snugly as you would like your pants to fit, leaving room for 2 fingers in between the measuring tape.
Do not substitue this measurement with your Off-the-Rack pants size.
Hips
Start by emptying your pockets and stand with your feet together, toes and heels touching.
Measure around the widest part of your hips, leaving room for 2 fingers in between the measuring tape, and make sure the tape is even all the way around.
Neck
Measure around the base of your neck, right under your Adam's Apple.
Leave enough room for 2 fingers inbetween the tape and your neck.
Jacket & Shirt Length
Start the measuring tape where the top of your shoulder meets the base of your neck.
Measure straight down, over your chest and stomach, to a point on your thigh that is parallel in height to your knuckles.
To check the measurement, measure from the same starting point, straight down the length of your back, and compare the finished measurement.
Make sure the measurement covers 80% to 100% of your rear.
Shoulder
Make sure you are starting from the natural shoulder point, and not from your shirt seam by feeling for the natural shoulder points, or acromion bone.
Starting from the outside edge of the acromion bone, pin at the base of your neck at the halfway point, and measure across to the other natural shoulder point.
Keep this point in mind for the sleeve length measurement that's coming up next.
Sleeve Length
Start where your shoulder measurement ended, at the natural shoulder point.
Measure along the outside of the arm.
Pin at the half way point, and then measure to about a half inch past the base of your palm.
Bicep
Measure the widest part of your dominant arm.
Do not flex when taking this measurement.
Pants Length
Start at the point on your waist where you would wear your dress pants and measure along the outside of your leg.
Pin at knee level, and end the measurement at the half point between your ankle and the bottom of your foot.
Thigh
Measure at the highest and widest point of your thighs.
The tape should not squeeze your thigh, instead, just skim the surface, leaving room for 2 fingers inside the tape.
Knee
Measure around the widest point of the knee cap, leaving enough room for 2 fingers between the measuring tape and the knee.
Crotch / Rise
Place the tape on your waist where you would wear your dress pants vertically aligned with your belly button.
Pinch the tape in place at this point, while you loop the other end of the tape, between the legs, to the corresponding point in the back also at the waist line.
Adjust the snugness of the measuring tape to your desired fit.
