Custom menswear, made the right way
We didn't follow custom menswear online. We built it.
Before "made-to-measure" was a category men searched for, Black Lapel was already building suits this way, direct from customer to factory, with no department store, no showroom markup, and no salesperson pushing you toward whatever's in stock.
Over twenty years later, that's still the whole model. We were early because we saw something the rest of the industry hadn't caught up to yet: a man's suit should be built around him, not the other way around. Everyone else has spent the years since trying to copy that. We've spent them perfecting it.
Why Black Lapel exists
The menswear industry gave men two bad options. Off-the-rack, where you buy a shape and a tailor tries to fix the gaps. Or old-world custom, at old-world prices, gatekept behind appointments and price tags most men would never consider.
We built a third option: real made-to-measure tailoring, at a price that makes sense, without ever setting foot in a shop. That wasn't a trend we jumped on. It's the reason Black Lapel started.
What actually makes us different
Plenty of brands say "custom" now. Here's what most of them don't do, and we do, on every single order:
- We own our factory. Your measurements go straight to a facility we run ourselves, not a third party we outsource to and hope stays consistent. Nothing gets lost, watered down, or reinterpreted between your fitting and your garment.
- Every pattern is built from scratch, for you. Not selected from a size range and nudged. Built. That's the difference between "adjusted off-the-rack" and true custom, and it's the difference most competitors quietly skip.
- The Flawless Fit Promise. If it doesn't fit exactly right, we alter or remake it until it does. We built our name on that guarantee because we intend to keep it.
- Premium fabric access, without the premium gatekeeping. Loro Piana and VBC aren't names you'd expect at our price point. We negotiated that access early, and we still pass it straight to you.
- 10 business days, not 10 weeks. Owning the factory means we control the timeline too. Real custom shouldn't mean waiting until next season.
